Nice Christmas even in hospital? Beats for Love delighted the youngest patients

Before Christmas, the organisers of the Beats for Love festival were handing out joy. This time the audience was not dance music fans, but the sick children of Ostrava City Hospital.

They set out to visit the little patients dressed as snowmen and angels, to brighten up the pre-Christmas afternoon for the ailing children as much as possible. The members of the Beats for Love team brought entertaining Christmas activities and programmes to the children’s ward. Together with the children they wrote a letter to Baby Jesus, made the longest Christmas paper chain and decorated a Christmas carp. There was no shortage of poems and songs either, which the Beats for Love organisers rewarded with festival gingerbread baked especially for the occasion.

„We try to let the children go home for the Christmas holidays, but unfortunately that is not always possible. That is why we appreciated the visit of the creators of the Beats for Love festival, who made this demanding period easier and more pleasant for the children,” says David Račák, press spokesman of Ostrava City Hospital.

The festival snowmen and angels went directly to the rooms of the more seriously ill children who could not take part in the programme. „We wanted to delight all the children on the ward, from babies to sixteen-year-old teenagers. We also involved the families and friends of the patients who happened to be visiting the hospital. Spending Christmas in hospital must be hard for children, so we are glad we could entertain them and make them laugh, at least for a while,” comments Kamil Rudolf, director of the Beats for Love festival.

The festival organisers have been holding similar charitable activities regularly for the second year now. Last year they organised a DJ workshop for students, let children from children’s homes become radio presenters for a day, donated blood and cleaned up the gardens of retirement homes. During the festival itself they then held a fundraising collection in support of the seriously ill Veronika Staníčková from Frýdek-Místek. For the seven-year-old girl they subsequently bought a special computer aid, thanks to which the girl can now communicate with those around her.
